“Appear as you are. Be as you appear.” ~ Rumi
Duality is in all of us. We do not want to reveal ourselves as much as we like to, simply because we might be taken for granted. People might use us, leverage our weaknesses and put us down. The more sophisticated this life becomes, the more faces we have and every time hide the many faces. The more you become unreadable to someone else, you are seen as a very successful person. The more you own about yourself, the little others know about you. That veil of pretension is what you get praised for. We see this all around us. We are continuously deceived by people around us whom we trust the most and also somewhere even though small, we deceive others. It is the level of duality we all are, but the truth is deception. Deception comes purely because we live in fear. There is an element of fear in our lives – fear of unmasking ourselves. The fear to let go of our various skins. The fear of being naked in front of yourself. We adore ourselves with the multiple faces we own, similar to the pride of owning and wearing so many clothes. Everyday we dress ourselves with a new cloth, a new face and a new you. It is just adding layers to yourself. It is amazing how we never had any of these pretensions when we were growing up. When we were children, we were just having one face. That one face just reflected who you were. Look around our children- they always are what they are. Never afraid to cry for the simplest things, never scared of letting their emotions go away, never holding on to their aspirations.
Looking at yourself, peel the layers off you from yourself.
Courage replaces fear. The minute you become bold and want to go back to your own self, you are extremely courageous. You do not worry about the faces, what matters is just that one face – the naked self which you will be to everyone including you. It is all about accepting who you are, however you are. It is about letting go of your skins and expressing you as you are. When you start doing this, everyone around you might not like it. People and relationships which came to you looking at your other skins, will leave you. The more you let go of people around you, the more original you can become. The lesser you put up your acts, the more real you become. There is no backstage or the front stage. Everything becomes one. That original you, then brings together the right souls around you. You will see the other souls which live in oneness. Those new relationships you will build last forever, much beyond this life. Those new relationships are built on who you really are, not who you pretend to be. If pretension on the other hand can take you to the real you, then become that real you eventually. The purpose of this life is to become one with who you really are.
Start dropping the skins on you, peeling yourself from yourself one by one. Washing yourself of yourself one by one. Letting go of who you really not are and getting to who you are. Trust that being courageous brings you to the right place, time and the new relationships. That is what who you really are.
