Take flight

You were born with wings. Why prefer to crawl through life? ~Rumi

Human lives were always dependent on each other and with every other species. We were interconnected in ways which were symbiotic and supporting each other. Especially with other beings, we evolved together. We were the species which brought meaning and purpose to a lot of life and able to articulate the aspirations and dependencies better. We were the only species which knew the truth and the absolute creation as a whole. We discovered new lands, invented things to make our lives better, and we were ever curious. Our curiosity has led to everything we use in our modern lives. We are perhaps one of the very few species which was able to take a broader perspective on life and evolution. Something is happening to us in the evolutionary journey as we grow our dependence on very fewer species, and our curiosity gets limited to information creation and access. We have become too dependant on financial based sustenance and success based on wealth creation; we are missing our capabilities which are within. We are getting used to our limitations rather than questioning them. What we are truly capable is what we have to rediscover from within ourselves.

Only when we know that we carry wings, can we spread them

Only when we spread the wings, can we fly!

Human potential is truly unlimited. The depth of human thought or strength of human will, the courage of the heart or the power of survival, the fight of the ailing body or the grit of the connected mind, the vastness of intelligence or the potential of human determination, the finesse of the healing touch or the beauty of compassion – everything is an incomparable gift in collective to our human evolution. Yet, we have or beginning to forget our true nature and become addicts to convenience. We know our strength through human evolution, but we have to be careful of not losing it. We have fought through generations to become what we are; we cannot crawl in our existence now. To look beyond the maze of mental barriers and physical limits, we have to move up to a terrace. To look beyond our weak ties of communities and small nuances of everyday life we have to look through a window of an airplane. To look beyond geographical boundaries and embrace the oneness of the planet we have to be in space. To look beyond what we can and to embrace our true nature we just have to close our eyes and look within. Only by rediscovering our true nature can know our wings and unfold them. Only when we soar we can see the bigger picture. When we do, the world becomes one and gets smaller, and we begin to become insignificant.

Empty weakness

“Give your weakness to one who helps.” ~ Rumi

We have been living in a world where showing your weakness is considered really bad. When you cannot express weakness and if it has a negative connotation, why would you even uncover your weakness? We have become so used to not just seeing it, but live in a state of denial about our weakness. Only when we know what is less, we can then seek for it. There must not be any hindrances in us to go and seek what is missing in us. Accepting that we do not have someone or something is the first step towards getting there. Why do we have to see weakness in a negative light? What you do not have or possess is something that you can get or acquire. Why make a big issue out of it? When you are able to see weaknesses in this light – first acceptance is born. You accept yourself that you have some and you do not have some other. There is absolutely no right or wrong. That comes only in a state of pure acceptance. Denial has no place in this, denial is living in a constant veil of a misconception. The minute you remove denial, everything is fine. what you have and what you do not have. These lines of Rumi are part of a longer poem, which has these lines too.

Crying out loud and weeping are great resources. A nursing mother, all she does is wait to hear her child. Just a little beginning-whimper, and she’s there.

The more you deny, the more weak you get. Let go and you are free.

What we are taught is to contain and not display our weaknesses. It is true that the more we keep them, they stay with you, making you more weak. Why deny something which you do not want? If you do not want something you must let it go, or fill it with what can take that away. You have to cry out loud of your weakness. You must believe that someone is there to take care of your weakness. A mother is always waiting for the child’s cry. She knows what to do to remove that weakness of the child. The more the child contains, the more it suffers. The minute the mother knows, the pain is gone. You have to first know where and how you are weak, say it aloud, be open and willing to let go. You do not need to be weak, you need the strength and someone is willing to give you that. Only when you consciously know what you need, you will find it. Only when you are empty, you can fill yourself. Never let weaknesses fill you, for there is no space for strength. Pour it out so your mother will come. The mother who can nurse all your wants.

There is no point of being a stone. You are made of emotions and weaknesses. There is absolutely no denial in that, let the emotions flow, let your tears out, howl in knowing your weakness – goodness and strength awaits to fill you up!

Conscious surrender

“Try something different. Surrender.”~ Rumi

Today, our lives have gotten into a routine. Looking at ourselves, we are emulating the machines around us pretty much. We have fallen into a fixed routine, cyclic and sometimes mind-numbing. Things which really do not fall into that routine is specially reserved only for “vacations”. Since the time we wake up, getting to work either at home or office, managing our kids, doing groceries, going out and meeting friends, errands or even be it going to temples – unfortunately we have made it a routine. Even while we fold our hands in prayer – we are doing it as a practice and most of the times without being in that prayer. This is how our environment, the things we use have manifested in us. It is totally true that we become what surrounds us. We are surrounded by mechanical things most of our time and we tend to become machines as well. It is amazing that we do not realise it, even when we realise it partly – we can only complain. It is hardly a moment we think of getting out of it. Because getting out of it for us, is still very very physical. We want to run away from what we are doing, get out of our present duties and be in a carefree place. That for us is freedom and we hanker for that.

Surrender to who you are and not what you want to be.

The actual fact is that, you can still do everything you have to do being in society – but with a difference. The difference is not physical but internal. The difference is acceptance and not dissidence. The minute you accept who you are, accept your surroundings and realise you can still do what you really want to, it changes not just you – but everything around you, the way you see it. The minute you see everything different, eventually it changes too. The more you fight the environment, the more deeper it gets as you get bogged down. We have to rise above it. The way to rise is to surrender. Surrender is not a negative, it is an act of giving up – but doing it consciously. It is about acceptance. Accepting what comes our way. Acceptance leads to satisfaction, satisfaction leads to lesser expectation and that in turn leads to gratitude and hence the giving up of your resistance to life naturally. It is wonderful what surrender can lead us to. When we surrender internally to our soul, and listen to only what our soul tells us – the mind and heart disappear. It does take time, but when the mind and heart disappear into our soul what is left is the pure you. Surrender to your true nature, surrender to who you are and not what you want to be. You can do this, by still doing what you do, only that it makes life truly beautiful. This life, make it as beautiful as you can, be different, surrender to yourself.
